Sunday flowers on a Monday. On the road for travels in the US, these past couple of days in Cincinnati @cincyartmuseum Ohio for their magnificent Art in Bloom have been nothing but a dream. The most magnificent art works with the most stunning floral arrangements, it has been an honor and absolute privilege to give lectures and workshops. Some traveling for hours from all corners of the US, even Canada for this memorable event. My deepest thanks and gratitude to @annkeeling312 Molly Milano-Rifkind, Kayla, Brad and the entire Cincinnati Art Museum team for your guidance and unwavering support.

I thought a lot about if I was nervous to take the stage. Of course there are always the understandable jitters but most of all I was just incredibly excited to meet everyone. Late September 2023 a request. If I would be interested to submit sugar flowers for an exhibition in 6 months. The curators @paleishetloo shared their interest for including my art for their upcoming exhibition Bloom. We agreed to meet on a closing day of the museum. A private tour along stately, surreal rooms. This was the palace built by king William III and Queen Mary. Anyone who has my book and read the chapter about this Royal couple will understand how significant this was for me. It would be the largest assignment I ever accepted but I didn’t need to ponder long. This wasn’t only about me, but about flowers and sugar in a house with a colonial past. I was given the honor to choose between delftware urns. Unique replicas of vases once commissioned by Queen Mary, handpainted by Makkum the delftware factory no longer here. How I wish I could have taken it home but these museum urns are irreplaceable and I had to make do with the measurements. Inspiration taken from paintings and murals, I immediately started working. Weeks turned to months and the garden of sweet flowers blossomed in size. A careful drive, my flowers arrived safely for the installation. I was late on Thursday to join my fellow artists for the preview before grand opening. Rushed in to view my artwork with the other artworks before crowds. Welcomed by a painting of Queen Mary, I entered the exhibit room alone. Old masters and modern pieces, my sweet flowers, now behind glass, were at the end. Getting closer, with each step, tears started flowing. It is hard for me to express how I felt seeing my flowers in this light. My work officially in a museum, tears of joy, I’m still regaining.

After months of work I’m so thrilled to finally share my art work of sugar flowers in delftware vase for the exhibition Bloom @paleishetloo This week has been a dream. For the first time I can say my sugar flowers are officially in a museum. Sugar flowers and sugar flowers only in priceless delftware urn. With blooms all around, every sweet petal rolled out and painted by hand. With the opening of the exhibition, these past days have been a dream come true with the memories of my ancestors in my heart. It is every artists hope to one day, be included in a museum. Just an hour ride from Amsterdam, run don’t walk to see Bloom. Open now till September this entire exhibition is so unbelievably beautiful. I’m so honored to be in the best company.

happy Sunday and happy Easter from my home to yours. A new favorite delftware vase. The lastest addition from an ever growing collection of blue and white. Leaving others behind, it took a few bids before I received the much anticipated, kind message. Would it be possible for me to collect in person? The vase belonged to her late mother but a move abroad made it necessary to downsize. Carriers not always the most careful, she didn’t want the vase to break as it was one of her Mother’s favorites.
An unexpected disruption in a crazy busy week, I drove over 2 hours without hesitation. When I entered the residence, the vase was on the table and even more beautiful than I could hope for. She told me someone else begged to buy after my final bid but she refused. A lady of her word, a deal is a deal. I told her this vase would be welcomed warmly. Not to be sold, and hopefully admired and enjoyed by many. I told her about my work, shared my Instagram and brought my book with me. All just to confirm this beautiful heirloom found the best new owner.
So grateful she kept her word, I matched the amount the other buyer offered to which she added two more beautiful once favorite plates. I asked if she could share the name of her mother. She was called Marie.

Floral opulence of fresh flowers and sugar flowers. Because of my ever growing sweet garden, I’m able to keep on adding layer upon layer of blooms. With each layer of flowers, I cherish my passion, nurture my creativity and my heart becomes more whole and more healed. ‘Feeling inspired’ might be considered a general feeling but it is a state of being that tells us we are closest to our heart. It should never be underestimated as this often is the moment we are most connected with our true self.

Heavenly tulips in our home, working with florals, I feel so fortunate. Always a race against time, I’m submerged in flowers these days. A string of events, a countdown has started preparing for multiple floral gatherings. The flowers always a feast but the best gift by far is always meeting the kind wonderful people sharing this floral love. The real life connections and conversations that follow always make me love even more what I love to do most.

My kitchen transformed into tulip heaven. There are over a 100 varieties here. Spring has sprung, I don’t ever want this sight to end. Thank you @jandewitenzonen for gifting me over 12 dozen tulips. Visiting flower friends, hearing and viewing their state of the art developments in the flower growing industry, they didn’t want me to go home empty handed.
Bulbs grown without soil, X ray machines to catch viruses, cooling systems without ammonium, QR codes with detailed tracking history on every crate, solar panels all around, I’m in awe of every aspect of these growers.

Ranunculus and roses in one of my favorite color combinations. Pink and orange.
IMHO, and some might disagree but I always find ranunculus one of the easiest flowers to arrange. Bended stems and even if they don’t bow, an inserted wire will solve and force a gracious arching shape. Highly photogenic, just open up their petals, even when they are not in full bloom, it creates a brimming flower at any time.
Joy from seeing the first snowdrops on my rooftop terrace and camelias ready to burst. Nature is slowly but surely ready to start the show. A busy week ahead for me which will be filled with sugar.
If you are just as eager as I am, hang in there, 10 days till spring, we are almost there.

A week in Paris, the flu and my birthday. All in particular order. March has started and it’s now only 17 days till spring. The fresh hellebores just wouldn’t look up. I did everything right. The slit from bottom to first leave, fresh water, it still wouldn’t show its face. I ran to my sweet garden and replaced the fresh helleborus with a sugar one. All it needed was a little color touch up.
